What You Can Expect

In this 6-week course, you’ll learn how to capture real moments and craft meaningful family films that tell beautiful, authentic stories. You’ll be guided through the entire process—from understanding your camera settings to editing your final project—so you can confidently deliver films that your clients will cherish.

Here’s a sneak peek at what we’ll be covering:

Module 1: Laying the Groundwork
Transition from photography to filmmaking with all the tools, techniques, and know-how you need. Learn the essential equipment and camera settings to get started.

Module 2: Editing Fundamentals
Practice with real keepsake film footage as you dive into sequencing, transitions, and basic color grading. Editing doesn't have to be intimidating—this module breaks it down step by step.

Module 3: Cinematography Techniques
Get hands-on with exposure, focus, and handheld filming techniques to capture dynamic, moving scenes that bring your stories to life.

Module 4: Light & Motion
Take your storytelling further with advanced lighting techniques and motion dynamics. Learn how to use light and movement to enhance the emotion in your films.

Module 5: Cinematic Storytelling
Build visual stories from the ground up. Learn how to use B-roll to add detail, slow motion for emotional impact, and the art of weaving everything together for a compelling story.

Module 6: Final Project
Put everything into practice by planning, shooting, and editing your very own story-driven keepsake film! This is where all your hard work comes together.

How the Live Run Works

This live run will be a 6-week guided journey, allowing you to stay on track and make steady progress as you create your first family film. Here’s the schedule:

  • 4 Nov, 7pm CST – Welcome / Course Kickoff Call

  • 11 Nov, 7pm CST – Week 1 Class Discussion: Laying the Groundwork

  • 18 Nov, 7pm CST – Week 2 Class Discussion: Editing Fundamentals

  • 25 Nov, 7pm CST – Week 3 Class Discussion: Cinematography Techniques

  • 2 Dec, 7pm CST – Week 4 Class Discussion: Light & Motion

  • 9 Dec, 7pm CST – Week 5 Class Discussion: Cinematic Storytelling

  • 16 Dec, 7pm CST – Week 6 Class Discussion: Review & Wrap-Up

  • 19 Dec – Final Project Due

During these weekly live sessions, you’ll connect with me and other members, ask questions, and get real-time feedback on your progress. It’s the perfect way to stay motivated and inspired as you work through the course.
