SHOWCASE: “Storytelling” Film Projects | FilmingLife® ArtHouse
The Term 2 2024 theme for our ArtHouse Film Project was led by FilmingLife® Community Manager Kylie Purtell and was all about Storytelling.
For this theme Kylie challenged our members to dive deeper into Storytelling and creating films with real intention.
Members were asked to think about the different ways in which we tell stories, the feelings they want their stories to convey, and how we can dig deeper to find connections between the unique stories we tell for ourselves & our client families and how we can link them to universal themes that will connect a wider audience to their film.
All ArtHouse themes are broken in to 2 levels. For the STORYTELLING theme the levels were defined as follows -
Level One EDIT FOR THE STORY:
STEP 1. Before you start to edit your film write down 3 words to describe the vibe/feeling you want your film to convey, as well as a sentence or two explaining what your story is about.
STEP 2. Using footage you’ve already shot (can be footage you’ve already turned into a film previously) edit together a short film that achieves what you wrote down in step 1.
For Level Two SHOOT FOR THE EDIT
Before you shoot your film do the following:
~ write down 3 words to describe the feeling you want your film to convey;
~ write down a brief plot outline of what will happen in your film;
~ write down the techniques & shot types you’ll use to achieve that feeling & move the plot forward;
~ select up to 3 pieces of music to use in your film.
As always the films that were submitted & created by our members were just amazing, and we’re so pleased to present them to you today…
The Educator’s Choice Award is chosen by the Lead Educator of the film project as those that fully embody the spirit of the FilmingLife® ArtHouse, and are noted for their storytelling, creativity and unique interpretation of the theme.
Elise Cook
What Kylie said about Elise's film -
”Elise absolutely nailed the brief with this one and perfectly encapsulated the feelings she was going for: nostalgia & growing up fast. The music choice was perfect, and the way she weaved together the old footage with the new was perfect and really rammed home the growing up fast message. I was in tears within seconds of starting this film and I’m so incredibly proud of Elise and the work she put into making this film and pulling it all together.”
